Locked Out of Your Investment Website? What’s Next

Locked Out of Your Investment Website? What's Next

You type your password and nothing happens. Or you get in, but the withdraw button is gone and the chat says your account is under review. Being locked out of your investment account is one of the clearest signs that a platform was never real. Here is what to do next.

First, do not try to buy your way back in

If the platform says your account will be unlocked once you pay a deposit, tax or security fee, do not pay. Locked accounts on fake sites are not unlocked by paying. The balance you saw was a number on their screen, not money held for you.

Save what you can, right now

If you can still see anything, screenshot it today. Your balance page, transaction history, deposit receipts, the account manager chat and the website address. Use a web archive or a simple screen recording. If the site is already gone, gather what is on your side: emails, bank statements, wallet history and chat apps.

Locked out of your trading or investment account?

✎ REPORT A SCAM NOW

Tell ReclaimDC what happened. Filing a complaint is free.

Check if it was ever licensed

Look up the platform on the FCA Warning List and the IOSCO I-SCAN. If a regulator has issued a warning, save the page. It strengthens a bank claim and your police report.

Report and file a complaint

  1. Report to the police and a fraud centre such as the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) or Action Fraud.
  2. Contact your bank about any card or wire payments and ask about a chargeback or fraud claim.
  3. Contact the exchange you used to buy and send crypto.
  4. File a complaint with ReclaimDC so your case can be reviewed and your evidence organised.

If the platform calls you back

Sometimes the operators reappear with good news: your account has been found, or a new department can release your funds. Sometimes a different company calls saying it is investigating the platform. Both are usually the same group trying again. Do not engage, and never pay.

Protect yourself going forward

  • ✗ Change passwords on any account that shares the same password.
  • ✗ Watch your email for phishing messages using your name.
  • ✗ Tell your bank to flag your account for extra checks.
  • ✗ Be wary of cold calls about investments for the next year.
Is being locked out always a scam?

Real brokers can freeze accounts for checks, but they explain why in writing and never ask for a fee to unlock it.

The site is gone. Is it too late?

No. Reports and wallet tracing still matter even after a site vanishes.

What to write down while you still remember

Memory fades quickly after a shock. Take ten minutes to write the story in your own words. How did you first hear about the platform? Who introduced it? What were you promised? How much did you deposit and when? What happened when you asked to withdraw? These notes become the backbone of your complaint and save you from repeating yourself to every bank and agency.

Note the names people used, even if you think they were fake. The same names often appear in other reports, and that link can connect your case to a bigger investigation.

How ReclaimDC can help

When you file a complaint, we look at what you have: the platform name, the payments and the chats. We check the platform against public regulator warnings, help you list each transaction clearly, and explain which reports and claims fit your situation. Many people who were locked out tell us the hardest part was not knowing where to start. That is what the review is for.

You stay in control the whole time. We never ask for your passwords, seed phrase or remote access to your device.

Why you got locked out

On fake platforms, lockouts are not a technical fault. They usually happen at one of three moments: when you ask for a large withdrawal, when you refuse to pay a fee, or when the operators are closing the site and moving on. Sometimes the whole website disappears overnight and comes back under a new name.

Account frozen for review Often followed by a fee demand
Login no longer works Operators removed your account
Website will not load Site shut down or moved
Manager stopped replying The scam has ended for you
