Oriontero Claimed Canary Wharf and Two London Numbers. Both Are Gone

The Financial Conduct Authority warned about Oriontero on 16 December 2022. The operation had given itself a Canary Wharf postcode and two central London telephone numbers — the cheapest way there is to look like a finance business.

What the FCA published

A plain unauthorised-firm warning, first published and last updated 16 December 2022. The FCA’s wording: “We believe this firm may be providing financial services or products in the UK without our authorisation.”

The details recorded: the website www.oriontero.com, an address in Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets, E14 5HN, and two telephone numbers — +44 20 3841 9544 and +44 20 3856 0873.

What a Canary Wharf postcode actually costs

E14 is the postcode district for London’s second financial centre. Put it on a website and a visitor pictures a trading floor in a tower.

What it costs to claim one is very little. Mail-forwarding and virtual-office services sell a prestige London address for a monthly fee, with no requirement that anyone ever attend the building. The same is true of the 020 numbers: they are bought online, routed to a mobile or a voice-over-IP app anywhere in the world, and answered by someone who has never been to London.

None of that is unlawful on its own — plenty of legitimate small firms use serviced addresses. The point is what the combination proves, which is nothing. A postcode and a dialling code are not evidence of a business. They are evidence that somebody paid for a postcode and a dialling code.

The thing that cannot be bought for a monthly fee is authorisation, and that is the only detail on the notice that would have mattered. Oriontero did not have it.

The domain is gone

We checked oriontero.com on 11 September 2026. It returns DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN — no DNS record exists at all. Nearly four years after the warning, the address has been abandoned entirely.

The Canary Wharf address and the London numbers will have gone the same way. A virtual office lapses when the standing order stops. A rented 020 number is released back to the provider. Nothing physical was ever committed, so nothing had to be wound down.

The check that would have caught it

Search the address itself. If a firm’s registered office is a building that houses hundreds of unrelated companies, or a mailbox service, the search results will say so within a few seconds — and that is worth knowing before you deposit, not after.

Then check the firm reference number on the FCA register. An unauthorised firm cannot produce one, which is why notices like this one list a website, an address and phone numbers, and never an FRN.

Anyone who dealt with Oriontero has no access to the Financial Ombudsman Service and no FSCS protection, because those exist only for customers of authorised firms.

REPORT A SCAM FAST

The address is always the weak point. ProFX One gave the FCA a London street and a Google map pin, and Zentra Capital supplied no address or phone number at all.

Our verdict

A postcode is a rental, not a credential. So is a phone number.

Check authorisation first and geography second, because only one of the two is expensive to fake. Oriontero had the expensive-looking details and none of the real one, and four years later there is nothing at the address at all.

If you sent money to Oriontero, tell your bank and report it to Action Fraud. Payment routes remain traceable long after a website disappears.
